Midline Catheters for Vancomycin Infusion - The Discussion Continues
Date and Time
November 20, 2014 at 1pm ET Description A recent clinical trial reported successful infusion of Vancomycin for 6 days through a midline catheter. This study also challenged the Infusion Nursing Standard of Practice to restrict infusions through peripheral and midline catheter to between 5 and 9. The pH of Vancomycin is reported to be less than 4. This small but randomized study was the subject of lots of discussion, and confusion, on many online discussion forums and at the 2014 AVA conference. The videoconference will continue this discussion to clarify some of the confusion and emphasize all factors that go into the patient assessment for correct choice of the most appropriate vascular access device. The single most important question at this point seems to be “Is it time now to change our policy about midline catheter use?” Cost $149 - unlimited number of participants in one location with one Internet connection There is only 24 spots available for this HOT TOPIC.
